How to Use This Site
The Texas Project FIRST website is designed to give parents accurate and consistent information about Special Education in Texas. We are aware that most of this information is available somewhere on the worldwide web, but we also know how frustrating lengthy web searches and cumbersome websites can be. Our goal is to simplify this process by consolidating the most relevant information in a single website that is easy to use and navigate.
If you are looking for information on a specific topic, refer to the menu on the left side of any page in this site. Clicking on a menu item will either take you directly to the information you need or to a menu of subtopics that will further narrow your search. Clicking on underscored words or phrases will take you to the information you are seeking within our website, or else link you to another reliable website where you may find your answers.
Age Groups
As a parent, it may be easier to start out by looking at information related to the age of your child. Start your search by clicking on one of the tabs organized by student ages at the top of our home page. This will take you to a menu of topics relevant to the age range of your child. On pages beyond the home page, you can find information organized by student ages in a scroll-down list at the top of the page. Simply click on “Select Age” and highlight the age group of interest to you.
The age-range menu is provided to help parents find information most relevant to the age group of their child. Topics that are common to more than one age group will be listed under all age categories to which they apply. Other topics may be specific to only your child’s age. For example, Ages 0-3 would have information on Early Childhood Intervention which is a service not available after age 3; so it will only be included in this age range.
Please note that sometimes there is a topic listed on an age range page, but there is no link yet. That means we are currently working on adding this topic.
Search
If you don’t find what you’re looking for on the menu or under age groups, then try the “Search Site” button at the top right corner of any page. Clicking on this will take you to the Texas Project First search browser. Type one or more key words in the the box provided and click on the Search button. This will bring up a numbered list of Search Results. Clicking on any of these results will take you to the page containing the word or phrase that you entered in the Search Box.
En Español
Every page of this website is – or will be – translated into Spanish. To find the Spanish version of any page, click on the “En Español” button at the top right-hand corner of that page. The Spanish version of this website is identical to the English version and can be navigated using the search procedures explained above.
Coming Soon
Please remember that this website is a “work in progress”, meaning that we are constantly adding and updating. Occasionally, you will encounter a page that says, “Coming Soon.” This is a page that is being developed but hasn’t yet been posted to the site. If this happens to you, try going back to the menu and clicking on “Links”. This will take you to a reliable list of linked websites, arranged by topic, where you can go to continue your research. If we don’t have the information you need on our site, we want to make sure you can easily find it elsewhere with a simple click of the mouse.
Registering for Updates
As noted above, this website is a “work in progress”. Once a month, we send an email informing people about new items we have added to the website. We DO NOT sell or give out any email addresses or any of the other information we request from you on the registration page. If you would like to be kept informed of information as it is added, please click on the link on the left side of our home page called Register for Updates. Be sure to include an email address at a minimum.
