This website was created in 2006 in partnership with Region 9 Education Service Center and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to fulfill the goals of the state Parent Training Network. The website was Created By Parents, For Parents, to provide accurate and consistent information on the special education process in a bilingual format.
After the OSEP investigation in 2017 of TEA and related Child Find problems (See the Denied series by the Houston Chronicle) , the Agency reorganized the statewide leadership networks and parent training was moved to Region 10 Education Service Center and the SPEDTex website.
Due to the extensive knowledge and time put into this website, plus the large numbers of users around the state both families and educators, Family to Family Network decided to keep the website up and running.
Family to Family Network is a parent training organization that has been in business for over 3o years, educating families on their rights and responsibilities within the special education process. Our belief is that families and schools must work together to ensure children with disabilities get the supports and services they need to get a quality education that helps them graduate to meaningful lives. That can be through post secondary education or further training, employment, and interdependent living. That is the whole purpose of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) of 2004.
