The Arc – The Arc is the largest national community-based organization advocating for and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Online resources include disability fact sheets, publications, self-advocacy resources, and more.

The Arc of Texas – Here you will find a broad range of links to Services in Texas by diagnosis, by age and by program as well as advocacy information and resources.

The Boulevard – This web site provides a directory of products and services for individuals with disabilities.

Brookes Publishing – This is the e-catalog for Brookes Publishing who publishes “highly respected resources in the following fields: early childhood, early intervention, inclusive and special education, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, communication and language, behavior and mental health.”

Canine Companions for Independence – This is the website for Canine Companions for Independence, “a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support.”

Center for Parent Information & Resources – Visit the CPIR\’s Repository of Resources to access a treasure trove of information related to children with disabilities.

Disability History Museum – This website is a virtual project of the Disability History Museum, whose mission is to foster a deeper understanding about how changing cultural values, notions of identity, laws and policies have shaped and influenced the experience of people with disabilities, their families and their communities over time.

disABILITY Information and Resources – This is a large compilation of web links to disability resources, communities, and databases. The web site was created and is maintained by Jim Lubin, who is a C2 quadriplegic, using a keyboard/mouse emulator with a sip and puff switch to type morse codes.

Disability Scoop – “Disability Scoop is the nation’s premier source for developmental disability news. With daily coverage of autism, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and more, no other news source offers a more timely and comprehensive take on the issues that matter to the developmental disability community.”

Diverse City Press, Inc. – This small publishing company offers books for professionals, training materials for people with disabilities, inspirational books for children, and a variety of audio tapes and DVDs that reflect the principles of the disability rights movement.

Exceptional Parent Magazine – This is the online version of Exceptional Parent Magazine, “providing information, support, ideas, encouragement, and outreach for parents and families of children with disabilities and the professionals who work with them.”

Insurance for Texans with Disabilities – This is an online booklet entitled Insurance for Texans with Disabilities that explains basic rights under Texas insurance law.

Kennedy Krieger Institute – This web site includes research findings and resources pertaining to the Institute’s areas of specialization, including: autism, behavioral disorders, bone disorders, brain injury, cerebral palsy, developmental disorders, Down Syndrome, feeding disorders, learning disorders, Muscular Dystrophy, rehabilitation, sleep disorders, Spina Bifida, Spinal Cord Injury, and Sturge-Weber Syndrome.

National Center on Disability and Journalism – “NCDJ is headquartered at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. The goal of the NCDJ is to provide support and guidance for journalists as they cover people with disabilities.”

National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research – NIDILRR is a federal government grants-making agency that sponsors grantees to generate new disability and rehabilitation knowledge and promote its use and adoption.

National Rehabilitation Information Center – Searchable database contains over 60,000 disability-related records. NRIC collects and disseminates the results of federally funded research projects.

New Mobility Magazine – This online magazine “encourages the integration of active-lifestyle wheelchair users into mainstream society, while simultaneously reflecting the vibrant world of disability-related arts, media, advocacy and philosophy.”

Parallels in Time: A History of Developmental Disabilities – This online resource from the Minnesota Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities traces the historical attitudes and values that have shaped society’s treatment of people with disabilities from the past to the present.

Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies – U.S. disability-led organization with a focused mission of equity for people with disabilities and people with access and functional needs throughout all planning, programs, services and procedures before, during and after disasters and emergencies.

Society for Disability Studies – A non-profit organization that “promotes the exploration of disability through research, artistic production, and teaching …to promote greater awareness and contribute to social change”.

Parenting Special Needs Magazine – This is an online magazine serving parents and caregivers of children with disabilities. It includes articles on family issues and legal issues; a bulletin board for sharing information and tips, asking questions, and posting items for sale; and a diagnosis search page for parents whose children have not yet been diagnosed.

StateData – This resource provides data on employment and people with disabilities by state.

Texas Parent to Parent – TxP2P empowers families to be strong advocates through parent-to-parent support, resource referral, and education. Their website features many resources for parents, including a Texas directory of disability resources by county.

Texas Yellow Pages for Kids with Disabilities (Wrightslaw) – Yellow Pages includes many resources – government programs, grassroots organizations, and parent support groups.

World Institute on Disability – A non-profit public policy center whose mission is “to strengthen the disability movement through research, training, advocacy, and public education so that people with disabilities, throughout the world, enjoy increased opportunities to live independently.”
