Texas Education Agency (Region 9 ESC) resources related to ADD and ADHD:

  • TEA School Health – Students with Special Health Needs – In accordance with HB 1322 passed by the 81st Legislative Session in 2009, TEA added fact sheets to its website on specific disabilities. The page links to a fact sheet on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, with an overview of the disorder, symptoms or behaviors associated with the disorder, educational implications, and instructional strategies and classrooms accommodations that might be provided.

Attention Deficit Disorder Association – This site provides information and news articles on ADD and related issues; a bookstore; a listing of support groups; personal stories and more.

Attention Deficit Disorder Association Southern Region – The ADDA-SR provides information to assist parents, teachers, professionals, adults with ADHD or anyone wanting to learn more about ADHD in Texas. The site includes links to support groups, training events, and other resources.

ADDitude Magazine – This online magazine provides “information and 
inspiration for adults and children with attention deficit disorder since 1999.”

A.D.D. Warehouse – This is the A.D.D. Warehouse is an online catalog of books, videos, training programs, games, professional texts and assessment products.

Center for Parent Information & Resources (CIPR) – Their fact sheet on ADHD includes information about diagnosis and treatment, school issues, tips for parents and teachers, and links to additional ADHD resources.  The ADHD fact sheet is also available in Spanish.

CHADD – This is the website of Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. CHADD is a national, non-profit organization that focuses on support, education, and advocacy for individuals with ADD/ADHD and their families. The site provides information on AD/HD and current research; legislative issues; CHADD position papers and news releases; web links, and more.

GreatSchools.net – This website provides school information and parenting resources for families of students from preschool to college. They have a section devoted to a range of articles on ADHD. They also have worksheets & activities, homework help, parenting dilemmas, and information on health and behavior.

Heath Resource Center – What Students with ADHD and Their Parents Should Know About College (pdf)

LD Online – LD Online includes information on a wide range of topics within the area of learning disabilities; a comprehensive list of resources and web links; teaching and assessment strategies; a Kid Zone page; and more. They have a separate section on ADHD Basics.

Reading Rockets – Favorite Books for Kids with Learning and Attention Issues

U.S. Dept. of Education – They offer a research report entitled “Identifying and Treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A Resource for School And Home.”

U.S. Department of Education\’s Office for Civil Rights – OCR has released guidance clarifying the obligation of schools to provide students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with equal educational opportunities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.  The Department has also released “Know Your Rights: Students with ADHD” that summarizes your rights and your school district’s legal obligations under the law.
