Center for Research on Women with Disabilities – This web site was created by the Center for Research on Women with Disabilities (CROWD) at Baylor College of Medicine. “CROWD’s purpose is to promote, develop, and disseminate information to expand the life choices of women with disabilities so that they may fully participate in community life.”
Chartbook on Women and Disability -This resource is part of a series of publications funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) and produced by the InfoUse Center on Improving Access to Disability Data. “The chartbook describes the current status of women with disabilities, relative to other women and men with and without disabilities, in a number of different aspects of life. By identifying the specific barriers and discrimination faced by girls and women, the chartbook paves the way for policy and attitudinal changes to ensure equal opportunity.”
Girls Inc. – “Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold through life-changing programs and experiences that help girls navigate gender, economic, and social barriers. Ms. Wheelchair Texas – This is the we site of the Ms. Wheelchair Texas and Little Miss Wheelchair Texas pageants. The duties of Ms. Wheelchair Texas are “promoting awareness of the need to eliminate architectural and attitudinal barriers, educating Texans on disability issues, and informing the public of the achievements of people with disabilities across our great state.”
SAFE – This is the web site of Austin-based SafePlace, a non-profit which helps families and children affected by domestic abuse or sexual violence. SafePlace’s free Fact Sheets on topics related to safety and people with disabilities (e.g., tips for hiring personal attendants, talking with your child about sexuality, etc.) are available for download from this website.
Violence Against Women with Disabilities – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office on Women’s Health provides a wealth of resources to help women, including women with disabilities, subjected to acts of violence.
